Chickens and Eggs (continued)
Rhode Island Red
The Red
Just about everything you know about chickens comes from The Rhode Island Red. This breed was raised by my mother's family in rural Alabama, and I'm proud to continue that tradition. The Red is a personable chicken. She sometimes is social, hopping up on an available lap, or following you around the farm. She was the first of my hens to lay, and she gave me three months of double-yolked brown eggs. Her production has slowed in winter.

Stats: Calm, quiet, easygoing. Medium-build hen with early and steady egg production.
Fresh Eggs
They really are better
The primary reason most homesteaders raise chickens is egg production. There are plenty of facts and statistics about how much healthier eggs are when they come from your very own cage-free, free-range hens. Here at The Gentleman Farmer, I get half a dozen eggs every day. To reserve an order, please contact me.
